I arrived in Portland on January 21, 2005 for a four week stint filling in on the morning show. Five years and nine months later, I am still here. I am grateful every day for the opportunity to live in such a great city!
Before Portland, I spent almost 8 years in Nashville, Tenn. I worked for a music trade magazine as the Nashville Bureau Chief and Country Editor. I was able to meet nearly every Country music artist. The songwriting community in Nashville is amazing!
I grew up and spent my first 30-something years in Santa Monica, Calif. I have to say Santa Monica is a fantastic city, even though now it's almost "too cool". I grew up swimming in the Pacific Ocean, so to me, venturing into the Atlantic here, is tough!!
My favortie movies tend to be small artsy or foreign films...."Life Is Beautiful," "Notes On A Scandal," "Cinema Paradiso". I am not into most of the blockbusters...Star Wars, Star Trek, Pirates of the Carribean, Batman, Superman. I don't have a lot of extra time, so I prefer to see the movies I think will appeal to me more.
Reading is a big hobby. I've read since I was a teen and I think it has directly impacted my ability to be a decent writer. I love thrillers, King VIII-era "bodice rippers," and I just finished reading the entire series of Sookie Stackhouse books that were the basis for HBO's "True Blood" series.
I have long enough sabatoged my desire to be my healthiest self. I decided to be accountable for my actions--to all who listen, and perhaps share my frustrations. Live on air, I admitted my shortcomings, and announced my intentions to make significant changes. I gave Jon a paper with my weight on it---my all-time high--and no one else in the world knows this! We all need encouragement and support whatever our endeavors. To "keep it real" and track my progress, share my thoughts, and create a system of sharing, I created the Facebook page EvaCanDoThis. Feel free to "Like" it!
Getting up at 3:00 a.m. for the morning show is hard. Even after six plus years, I often struggle to move out of bed and into the bathroom. While I should be going to bed at 7:00 p.m. each night, it isn't a reality for me. I wish I could say I am in bed by 9:00 p.m., but it's usually closer to 10! I don't have to wonder very hard why I am always so tired!
I enjoyed this article on reasons and solutions for women having trouble sleeping.
I love this recipe for mini-frittatas. I bought a mini-muffin pan (holds 6 muffins). I hate spinach, so I saute red, yellow, and orange peppers to include. I eat two per morning, so I get three days worth of breakfast for about 10 minutes of my time. And they taste delish!!
I am thinking of doing this MS Ride event this year, August 6-7. I am considering 100 miles total vs. 150 miles. If you've done the ride before, please email me at eva@coast93.1.com. I am wondering how hilly the course is and how much I would need to train. I'm somewhat of a newbie cyclist when it comes to longer distances!!
