11. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! | 26 min | Unrated
Starring: Boris Karloff, and the words of Dr. Seuss

The Grinch hates Christmas so much he tries to spoil it for the whole town of Whoville. Dressed as Santa Claus, with his dog Max in tow, he sneaks into homes in the dead of night to steal presents and decorations from happy little Whos. All goes according to plan in this animated classic until the Grinch gets the surprise of a lifetime. Check it out, and see if your heart doesn’t grow three sizes that day.

12. The Polar Express (2004)

The Polar Express | 100 min | PG
Starring: Tom Hanks, Chris Coppola, Michael Jeter, Josh Hutcherson, Nona Gaye

Hop aboard the Polar Express for a Christmas adventure. A young boy isn’t sure if he believes in Santa Claus, but when a magical train shows up on Christmas Eve he embarks on a journey of self-discovery to the North Pole. Sure, the graphics are a little too real and sometimes it boarders on creepy but it’s still an amazing animated story and Tom Hanks is in it. A lot.

13. Elf (2003)

Elf

Elf | 97 min | PG
Starring: Will Ferrell, James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, Bob Newhart, Ed Asner

Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color? When orphaned baby Buddy finds his way into Santa’s toy bag on Christmas Eve he is brought to the North Pole where he is raised as a toy-making elf. Years later, grownup Buddy has trouble fitting in so he travels to New York City to find his birth father, a grouchy publishing executive. One of the best Will Ferrell comedies to date, Elf is fun for the whole family. It’s lighthearted, silly, and oh so quotable.

14. Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

Miracle On 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street | 96 min | TV-G
Starring: Maureen O’Hara, Edmund Gwenn, Natalie Wood, John Payne, Gene Lockhart

Do you believe in Santa Claus? Trust is the central theme in this holiday classic that sends Kris Kringle to court to defend his mental state. Kringle must win over the judge, New York City, and a family of doubters. One of the few films on our list to nab a Best Picture nod, Miracle on 34th Street also holds a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

15. Trading Places (1983)

Trading Places

Trading Places | 116 min | R
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd, Denholm Elliott, Jamie Lee Curtis

Is a man’s behavior determined by his heredity or his environment? Two rich businessmen decide to run a social experiment in order to find the answer by reversing the circumstances of a wealthy broker (Aykroyd) and a struggling hustler (Murphy). The rich man looses everything and must rely on a friendly hooker (Curtis) to help him land back on his feet. An adult adventure, to be sure, nothing puts things in perspective like a drunk Dan Aykroyd in a nasty Santa Claus outfit.
