RECALL ROUNDUP: 183K pacifiers, humidifiers top the list

A look at this week’s biggest recalls and product safety news.

Gree recalls another 350,000 dehumidifiers
Gree Electric Appliances is recalling an additional 350,000 dehumidifiers because of a risk that they could overheat, smoke or catch fire.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received 16 reports involving the humidifiers, including five reports of fires resulting in about $430,000 in property damage. No injuries have been reported. The CPSC says consumers should turn off and unplug the dehumidifiers and contact Gree to receive a refund at 866-853-2802 or online.

Gree recalled 2.2 million dehumidifiers sold under different brands in September.

More than 183K pacifiers recalled because of choking hazard
Fred & Friends Chill Baby Artiste, Volume and Panic pacifiers are being recalled because they fail to meet federal safety standards. More than 183,000 pacifiers have been sold nationwide through December. Consumers should stop using the pacifiers and contact the company for a full refund.

IKEA recalls junior beds due to laceration hazard
IKEA is recalling thousands of junior beds because part of the metal guardrail can break, posting a laceration risk. The beds, sold under the names Kritter and Sniglar and were sold through May. Consumers should stop using the beds and contact IKEA for a refund

Seat fabric may force Toyota recall in US, Canada
Toyota Motor Corp. says it’s in talks with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about a possible recall in the U.S. and Canada covering several car models, including the popular Camry, for a potential problem with seat fabric.

The Japanese automaker has already halted sales of the problem vehicles, which are only those equipped with seat heaters, because the fabric may not clear flammability standards. Company spokesman Naoki Sumino says affected models are the Camry, Camry hybrid, Avalon sedan, Avalon hybrid, Corolla subcompact, Sienna minivan, Tundra and Tacoma trucks sold since August 2012, when the fabric supplier was changed.

It’s still unclear whether the NHTSA would decide on a recall.
