Richie Sambora: ‘Bon Jovi isn’t the real thing without me’

Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora is convinced the classic rock band “isn’t the real thing” since he walked away from the group last year.

The rocker abruptly left the band’s tour last April, citing his desire to spend more time at home with his 16-year-old daughter Ava, and he has now embarked on his own solo trek in Australia.

Sambora tells Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper that Bon Jovi just isn’t the same without the original line-up: “At the end of the day, if you’re going to buy a can of Coke, you want the real thing.”

Sambora also hints that he is still at odds with Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi, whom he claims “just has a different mentality,” insisting “I know Mick Jagger wouldn’t tour without Keith Richards and call it the Rolling Stones.”

He adds, “For the longest time, even now, I’m considered Jon Bon Jovi’s side arm, or something… Hey, I built this band, too.”

When asked about a potential reunion with the “Livin’ on a Prayer” hitmakers, Sambora adds, “I’m not saying this band will not get back together at some point, or not. There will have to be a lot of communication, a lot of talking.”
