On June 17, 1994, the world watched as football star, actor, and accused murderer OJ Simpson led police on a now infamous chase in his white Ford Bronco.

It became known as the “Trial of the Century.”

Simpson, a Hall of Fame football star, was charged with the June 12, 1994, murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Every twist and turn of the case, from the slow-speed pursuit of the Bronco carrying Simpson, to the courtroom scene of him trying on the gloves allegedly worn by the killer, became fodder for the first big TV trial in an era of 24-hour news. A jury acquitted Simpson in 1995.

The families of Goldman and Simpson’s slain ex-wife took Simpson to civil court, got a $33.5 million judgment and then seized anything that could help pay that award.

In the end Ron Goldman’s father, Fred Goldman is credited with helping to put Simpson in prison by going after his property so relentlessly that Simpson finally pulled a hotel-room stickup in Las Vegas in 2007 to recover some of his sports memorabilia before Goldman could get his hands on it.

Simpson was sentenced to as much as 33 years in prison for that crime. His attorneys continue to lobby for a new trial in that case.
