Beatles icon Ringo Starr has been feted with France’s highest honor in recognition of his lengthy career.

The “Yellow Submarine” hitmaker was made a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) in a ceremony held in Monaco on Tuesday.

The drummer was handed the award by France’s ambassador to Monaco, Hugues Moret.

Speaking about his achievements, Starr quipped, “I’m a drummer, but I can do other things. Like painting, living, breathing.”

The rocker is in good company as the latest recipient of the medal – previous honorees include Sir Sean Connery, Bono and David Bowie.
