On Friday, February 19, at 1230p, I went to get my hair cut and parked on a side street just off Congress Street at the bottom of Munjoy Hill in Portland. I pulled up on the right side of the street and looked up at the parking sign (left photo), and I read it as the only time you “couldn’t” park there was 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at the listed times. I then looked across the street to the parking sign posted. (photo right).
Deciding, I was good to park where I was, I went and got my hair done! I came out two hours later to a $30.00 ticket. I look up and kept re-reading the sign — I assume now the “except” means you can’t park there “except” those times. I feel the sign is pretty confusing. A man who lives on the corner even walked over because he says he sees this daily where people park there and are ticketed. Glad to know I am not the only one confused. It really shouldn’t be this difficult to interpret a parking sign. I may lose, but I want to voice my opinion on this! –Eva
