The Bath Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam after receiving numerous reports Wednesday of calls from people posing as government representatives.

Officers say the callers claim to represent Sagadahoc County or the Department of Homeland Security and tell victims their credit or banking information had been compromised.

The caller then tells the victim they need to verify their banking details over the phone.

Bath Police say the calls are a scam, and are asking residents to spread the word.

Police agencies on a regular basis warn residents not to provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers.

They say anyone who receives such calls should hang up immediately and avoid sharing sensitive information.
