Retired FBI agent and attorney Jason Cherry is running for governor of Maine after announcing his candidacy on his website.

Cherry is the sixth Democrat to enter the governor’s race to replace incumbent Democrat Janet Mills, who is term-limited

He ran unsuccessfully as an independent against U.S. Senator Angus King in last year’s election.

Among other things, Cherry favors expansion of ranked choice voting and direct public election of the state Attorney General. a post which is currently appointed by the state legislature in Maine.

His website couches him as a reformer who backs “direct democracy” and public ownership of government.

In a frequently asked questions section of his site, Cherry says he favors “clean energy” over fossil fuels and barring cell phone from students in public school classes.

A total of 15 candidates have filed paperwork with the Maine Ethics Commission to run for governor. among Democrats, Republicans and Independents.
