New numbers show Acadia National Park recorded its busiest October ever with almost 600,000 visitors.

The record 596,423 visits came as the government shutdown left the park with a skeleton crew and most of its buildings closed to the public.

Acadia is also on pace to easily surpass 4 million visitors in a year for only the second time ever, with the tally reaching 3,996,503 so far.

The Park previously reached 4 million visits in 2021, when there was a post-pandemic surge in recreational activity.

If numbers reach their typical level for November and December, Acadia National Park will set a record for yearly visits in 2025.

Overnight camping stays are also on a healthy pace, with a nearly 33 increase this year over 2024.

There have been 277,459 overnight camping stays in Acadia so far this year vs. 208,739 in 2024.
