Arctic Air Headed to Maine, More Snowstorms by February

The snow is done falling in Maine just as an arctic blast is about to enter the state.

“We’re pretty much done,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Joe Lundberg. “Looks like a general 3-6 inches of snow out of this. Now it’s all about the arctic cold. This snow is not going to melt anytime soon.”

Lundberg says there’ll be a lot of teens, single digit and possible minus zero temperatures before we hit the low and mid 30s by the weekend.

He says a change in the weather pattern could also bring more snowstorms to northern New England in the month of February. He says the pattern will move north from Texas to the Great Lakes, which will likely send numerous snowstorms eastward to our region.

“It’s plenty cold enough to get some snow this time of year if a storm tracks in the right position,” Lundberg said. “So, I would think storminess and a little less cold, but that doesn’t mean a lack of snow, I think, for the month of February”

Lundberg says snow and somewhat cold weather will create very good conditions for outdoor winter activities in Maine, such as snow skiing and ice fishing.
