Three primary races in Maine will go to ranked choice tabulations after none of the candidates managed to get a majority of the vote.

The Maine Secretary of State’s Office said Wednesday that the Democratic and Republican primaries for governor will be decided by ranked choice, as well as the primary for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

In the Democratic race for governor, Nirav Shah was leading by a few percentage points as of Wednesday, with Hannah Pingree and Troy Jackson neck-and-neck.

On the Republican side, Bobby Charles appears to be the favorite for governor but failed to get a majority of the vote.

Ranked choice will also decide the winner in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District primary, where Democrats Joe Baldacci, Jordan Wood and Matt Dunlap are locked in a tight race.

The office said other state-level races may also go to ranked choice.

The ranked choice tabulation process will begin this Friday in Augusta and is expected to be completed next week.

The count will be livestreamed on the Maine Secretary of State YouTube page.
