Auburn’s city council advanced a mobile home rent stabilization ordinance at Monday night’s meeting.
According to the Sun Journal, the ordinance caps mobile home lot rent increases at 5 percent or the annual Consumer Price Index, whichever is lower.
It also limits increases to once a year and requires a 90-day notice for increases.
The council will take a final vote on the ordinance at a future meeting.
It comes as many other Maine communities consider ordinances and moratoriums on mobile home lot rent increases.
Residents have faced skyrocketing rent increases in recent years as out-of-state buyers purchase mobile home parks in Maine.
