AUBURN (WGME) – A motorcyclist has died following a collision in Auburn.

Authorities report that the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of South Main Street and Witham Road.

Preliminary findings indicate that a Volkswagen Beetle, attempting to enter South Main Street from Witham Road, struck a motorcycle.

The Beetle was operated by a 15-year-old learner’s permit holder, supervised by her mother.

The motorcycle was ridden by Jessica Carter, a 40-year-old from Lewiston.
The Volkswagen’s driver struggled with the manual transmission while merging onto South Main Street. Carter attempted to evade the car but collided with the Beetle’s driver’s side.

Despite wearing a helmet, Carter sustained fatal injuries. Onsite witnesses provided medical assistance and CPR but could not revive her.

The Volkswagen’s passengers sustained no serious injuries.

The area around South Main Street and Witham Road was closed for hours for accident reconstruction.

The Auburn Police Department continues to investigate the crash.
