Central Maine Healthcare has been acquired by a California-based non-profit.

According to a news release from Prime Health Foundation, the group has acquired Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital.

The deal also includes Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, LifeFlight’s central Maine base, the Maine College of Health Professions in Lewiston and more than 40 physician practices.

Central Maine Healthcare has struggled financially in recent years, with the CEO telling the Sun Journal last year that the system isn’t being sold but joining with a new partner.

Prime says it will invest $150 million in Central Maine Healthcare over the next five years.
