Monday starts out 3-day stretch of 90-degree weather in Maine, although coastal areas including Portland are expected to be a cooler.
A heat advisory is in effect for many inland parts of Maine until 8 p.m. Thursday.
There’s also a high fire danger across Maine from Bangor south to the New Hampshire border, according to the Maine Forest Service.
Some communities are opening cooling centers in response to the heat and humidity.
People are being asked to limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, and wear light colored clothing.
They’re also being asked to check on elderly neighbors, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
