Two adults were killed and four children were injured in a crash on the Turnpike in New Gloucester early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened on the southbound side when a U-Haul trailer became detached from an SUV, with the occupants getting out to address issues with the trailer.

Another vehicle struck both the SUV and the trailer from behind, leaving one woman dead at the scene and critically injuring the male driver, who died in the hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle, along with four children, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
