Democratic senate candidate Graham Platner hires new manager to run campaign

The campaign for Democratic candidate Graham Platner has hired new management to run the shaken, yet still popular, senate bid.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Deputy Director of the Maine People’s Alliance Ben Chin has been hired. Chin is a Lewiston resident and Bates alum who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of the city in 2015 and 2017.

He’ll be filling the place of previous campaign director Kevin Brown, who had to leave his position after just a week in the role due to his wife’s pregnancy.

Despite controversies over comments made online and a Nazi tattoo that he’s since covered up (which led to previous campaign manager Genevive McDonald resigning), Platner’s campaign is still seeing strong support heading into 2026, especially at recent town halls in Portland and Bath.

“Obviously, there have been the kind of hiccups that happen when you start trying to build a plane and then it turns into a rocket ship,” Chin told the Portland Press Herald. “There are things that we’re going to tighten up as we go, but the bones of this are what you see at these town halls.”
