Democratic State Sen. Baldacci Running for 2nd District U.S. House Seat

Joe Baldacci - Maine Senate Democrats

State Senator and former Bangor Mayor Joe Baldacci is running for Maine’s Second District U.S. House seat.

Baldacci says he’ll vote to restore ACA subsidies, protect Social Security and Medicare and crack down on corporate greed.

He’ll face former Secretary of State and current Maine Auditor Matt Dunlap and former congressional staffer Jordan Wood in the Democratic primary.

Former Governor Paul LePage and James Clark are the Republican candidates in the District 2 race.

Incumbent Democrat Jared Golden is not running for reelection. President Donald Trump won the district by nine points in 2024.

The seat is expected to be one of the most challenging for Democrats to hold nationally in next year’s mid-term election as many political watchers believe LePage is now the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican leaning district.

Baldacci appears to be expecting a tough battle with LePage, if he gets the nomination.

“I’ve taken on Paul LePage before and won, and I’ll do it again in November,” said Baldacci in a news release. “That’s what Maine needs right now, and that’s why I’m in this fight.”
