Fire Destroys Home North of Rumford

Roxbury home fire - Maine State Fire Marshal's Office

The state Fire Marshall is reminding residents to regularly inspect woodstoves and fireplaces after a fire destroyed a home Monday afternoon in the western Maine town of Roxbury.

Fire crews say they arrived at 2:20 pm to find heavy smoke coming from the home.

Investigators have determined it originated in the immediate vicinity of the home’s woodstove and chimney system, most likely the result of a chimney-related issue.

The home is considered a total loss. Firefighters say no injuries were reported, and no pets were harmed during the fire.

Roxbury is located about 12 miles north of Rumford on State Route 17.
