Democratic Congressman Jared Golden is running for reelection to Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

Golden announced his campaign Monday morning to retain the seat he’s held since 2019.

He narrowly won reelection last year against Republican challenger Austin Theriault, in a district President Donald Trump has now won in three straight elections.

Former Maine Republican Governor Paul LePage announced earlier this month he’s running for Golden’s 2nd district seat.

Maine’s 2nd Congressional District is one of the most competitive districts in the country and will likely be a top target for Republicans to try and capture in 2026.

Golden was rumored to have his sights set on a run for governor, before Monday’s reelection announcement.

He released a brief statement about his reelection campaign.

“While I have considered many options for how best to continue serving the people of Maine, I have decided to run for re-election because the surest way to restore balance in Washington is for Democrats to win back the House of Representatives,”

“While the election is still 18 months away and I remain focused on my responsibilities to my constituents and my family, I also know the path to the majority runs through Maine. And I am going to do what it takes to make sure no one like Paul LePage blusters his way into Congress.”
