Gov. Mills says she’s “confident” state will prevail in federal legal battle over transgender athletes

Gov. Janet Mills doubling down on her defiance of the president’s order banning transgender athletes in girls’ sports.

During an appearance in Bangor on Thursday, the governor said she remains confident that the federal government can’t legally pull funding for Maine schools over the state’s policy that allows trans athletes in female sports.

The governor’s comments came a day after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a lawsuit against Maine’s Department of Education over the issue.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Gov. Mills called the lawsuit a distraction from issues Mainers are worried about like the price of eggs, bread, fuel and housing.
