Former Maine House Speaker Hannah Pingree is running to be Governor of Maine, after making a formal announcement Tuesday morning.

Pingree most recently served as Director of Governor Janet Mills’ Office of Policy Innovation and the Future and is the daughter of Democratic Congresswoman Chellie Pingree.

Hannah Pingree joins several other Democrats in the race for governor, including former Senate President Troy Jackson, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, and renewable energy businessman Angus King III (the son of Independent Maine U.S. Senator Angus King.)

Governor Mills is term limited and will leave office after next year’s election.

“I am running for Governor to bring Maine people together to do the hard things that none of us can do by ourselves,” Pingree said in her announcement. “As a state, we face real challenges—but I also know we have real opportunities. I believe in Maine, and I believe in Mainers. I’m ready to travel the state to listen, to learn, and to talk about how we can build a strong future for Maine.”

Pingree’s Tuesday schedule includes the following stops:

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. — Kickoff with supporters in Rockland

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. — Lunch with Mayor Carl Sheline, Mayor Jeff Harmon, and community leaders in Lewiston

2:30 – 3:30 p.m. — Economic development tour with Mayor Marty Grohman in Biddeford

5:30 p.m. — Evening rally at Bayside Bowl, Portland
