A Monday gathering in Augusta is reflective of a national protest in opposition to the Trump administration’s actions in the first month of his second term.
Hundreds of people came together in frigid cold weather outside the Maine State House as part of the “No Kings Day” demonstration staged by the 50501 Movement.
The protesters voiced opposition to President Trump’s executive orders and Elon Musk’s involvement in the federal government with his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk has been named a special government employee by President Trump and has vowed to slash the government workforce and eliminate corruption.
Critics, including the Monday protesters, contend Musk and his team are staging an unconstitutional power reach. Most recently. Musk and DOGE have been seeking personal tax information at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Monday’s gatherings across the country were intentionally held on President’s Day.
