A judge on Friday gave the Maine Secretary of State’s Office 30 days to review signatures gathered for a referendum concerning transgender students.
A lawsuit filed by a group of Mainers claims that the question should be removed because there were problems with thousands of signatures.
The secretary’s office this week acknowledged issues with some signatures, but not enough to remove the question from the ballot in the fall.
The question asks voters if they approve of a new law requiring athletes to play on teams and use locker rooms and bathrooms in accordance with the sex on their birth certificate.
