A 45-year-old Lewiston man has serious injuries after being hit by a car while running away from police with stolen bottles of liquor from a Hannaford store

Lewiston Police says they were sent to Highland Spring Rd and Sabattus St. at 1:50 pm Tuesday on a report of a vehicle and pedestrian accident.

Officers say initial reports indicated the pedestrian was trapped under the vehicle, and upon arrival, they found out a nearby auto mechanic had heard the accident and was using a car jack to lift the vehicle.

The pedestrian, identified as Ronnie Clark of Lewiston, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he remains in serious, but non-life-threatening condition.

Police says their investigation revealed that prior to the accident, Clark had been seen inside the nearby Hannaford Supermarket stealing several bottles of liquor.

When approached in the parking lot by store security, officers say Clark fled the property and was struck by a 2003 Mazda CX30, while crossing Highland Spring Rd., which is adjacent to Hannaford.

The vehicle was driven by Kenneth Floyd of Greene.

Clark was later cited at the hospital for Theft by Unauthorized Taking, as he was in possession of a bottle of stolen “Skull”” vodka at the site of the accident.
