A man’s is dead after Lincoln Police say they shot him when he lunged at them with a knife last night.
Officers say they were called to a home on Whale Street where Derek Beach had violated an order against him being there. It was a “protection from abuse” order.
Police say Beach did not respond to attempts to negotiate and lunged at them with a knife after they tased him.
According to police, Sgt. Michael Winslow and Officer Kristofer Milner shot Beach and he died at the scene.
Winslow and Milner have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol in police shootings.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating the use of deadly force.
