Local Maine Fire Dept. Warns of Statewide Fire Danger

Southwest Harbor Fire Department

A fire department near Bar Harbor is warning about fire danger across Maine.

The Southwest Harbor Fire Department says fire crews across the state have been responding to a steady increase in outdoor fires due to worsening drought conditions.

The department cited a local 20×20-foot fire as a ” strong reminder of how easily fires can start and spread, especially when left unattended, unnoticed, or occurring in remote locations.”

Much of the state south of Houlton is currently under a “moderate fire danger”, according to Maine Forest Service.

Southwest Harbor Fire is asking the public to be “extra cautious with any outdoor activities that could spark a fire,” and properly dispose of ashes or other flammable materials.
