Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows says she’s joining nine other Secretaries of State in demanding details about the federal government’s request for voter data.

The group sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after Maine and several other states received a demand for voter registration lists.

Maine has refused to hand over the data, with Bellows saying the Department of Justice hasn’t been clear about what the information will be used for and that the request violates the Constitution.

The request for clarification comes after conflicting statements from federal officials about whether the data is being fed to a citizenship-check system run by DHS.
