For the second year running, the New England REEL Recovery Film Festival will be hosting “a chance to listen, learn, and take action.”
The event is organized by the Maine Association of Recovery Residences. A recovery residence is a substance-free living environment that gives support for recovery from substance use disorders. MARR is a nonprofit whose mission is to “promote this ethical and sustainable management of high-quality recovery residences throughout the State of Maine.”
The film festival focuses on addiction, healing, and resilience. The first day consists of a keynote speech from recovery advocate Chris Poulos, as well as Maine-Made Films on the topic.
On the second day of the festival, recovery advocate and musician Justin Clancy shares his personal journey of overcoming adversity. Alongside Clancy, beneficiaries of MARR’s Bed Scholarship Fund will share personal stories. Films throughout the day continue to explore addiction, healing, and resilience.
Proceeds from the festival go to the Bed Scholarship Fund, which MARR uses to cover the first and last month’s rent for individuals going into recovery residences. The festival takes place on Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7; more information and tickets can be found on the event website.
