A midcoast fisherman accused of causing the death of a crew member has been charged with manslaughter.

Geoffrey Barrett, 39, of North Haven is the operator of the commercial lobster boat Long Faces, who was arrested for the death of his crew mate.

Marshall Ames, 57, died in a boating incident in June, but the cause of death is not being released while an investigation continues.

Ames was found in the water near Hurricane Sound off Vinalhaven on June 18.

A Good Samaritan pulled him from the water and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Barrett has been charged with manslaughter, as well as operating a watercraft under the influence, misdemeanor assault and refusing to submit to arrest.
