Maine Republican Rep. Laurel Libby says she’s filed a lawsuit after her censure in the Maine House.

Rep. Libby is no longer allowed to vote or speak on the House floor, after refusing to apologize for sharing a post on social media showing a side-by-side photo of a Maine transgender athlete competing as a boy and a girl.

Rep. Libby says she’s suing House Speaker Ryan Fecteau over what she says is a violation of her First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.

Speaking with our info partners at CBS 13 news on Tuesday, Rep. Libby said she should not be punished for actions taken outside of the House chamber.

Libby’s post became the focus of a controversy over Maine’s transgender sports policy, which is now under federal investigation for violating the president’s executive order barring transgender athletes from competing in girls’ sports at schools that receive federal funding.
