For the 3rd year in a row, Maine set a new record for the number of tickborne disease cases reported across the state in 2025.

Maine Public reports that in total, around 3,653 cases of Lyme disease were reported last year, breaking 2024’s record by nearly 400 cases. 2024’s number also beat out 2023’s numbers by nearly 300.

The preliminary data, coming from the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, showed that rates of the diseases were particularly high with residents in the Midcoast region.

In addition to Lyme disease, cases of other diseases like Babesiosis and Anaplasmosis set new records as well.

Experts pin the rise of tick-borne illnesses on longer tick seasons, with ticks being active longer due to warming temperatures brought on by climate change.
