(WGAN) Aspen Dental says patients’ personal information may have been stolen in a ransomware attack.

In a news release Thursday, the company said it notified law enforcement of the data breach and launched an investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts.

The release says social security numbers, bank and financial information, biometric data and other sensitive information may have been stolen.

Aspen Dental is based out of Chicago and has 10 locations in Maine, including offices in Portland, South Portland, Augusta, Waterville and Bangor.

The Bangor Daily News reports that the company is offering free credit monitoring to people whose social security numbers may have been taken.
