Mainers are sharply divided along party lines over the performance of President Donald Trump in the first month of his second term.

The divide could hardly be more pronounced as 98 percent of Republicans approve of Trump’s handling of the Presidency, while just 1 percent of Democrats have the same view.

The President’s overall performance approval rating is 45 percent.

The new data comes from the Pine Tree State Poll, which was released Wednesday by the University of New Hampshire.

It also shows a majority of Mainers think Elon Musk’s current role in the Trump administration is inappropriate (54%-38%). Nearly all Democrats (98%) and 73% of Independents think Musk’s role is inappropriate while 87% of Republicans feel his role is appropriate.

Maine residents have a nuanced view of President Trump’s executive orders in his first month,.

A majority of residents support his executive orders releasing records about the JFK & MLK assassinations (62%) and reinstating discharged service members who refused COVID vaccinations (54%).
Majorities of Mainers oppose Trump’s executive orders revising birthright citizenship (58%), renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America (54%), and withdrawing from the World Health Organization (52%), while Mainers are divided on pausing all foreign aid (50%support,49%oppose), and creating the Department of Government Efficiency (44%support,47%oppose).
