The largest union representing Maine state employees has a new contract after more than a year of negotiations.

MSEA Local 1989 employees have been working under an expired contract since July of last year.

The Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services announced Tuesday that union members voted to ratify a deal effective through the end of next June.

The agreement includes an across-the-board pay raise of 4.5 percent, and a $2,000 lump-sum payment.

The union had previously filed bad-faith labor complaints against Governor Janet Mills’ administration, but the dispute was ultimately resolved with a ratified labor agreement.

The new contracts cover 9,000 state workers.

The union also is preparing for the next round of contract bargaining, which will begin in early 2027 with a new governor
