Man Accused of Using Hammer to Destroy Granite Pillar in Bangor

A 46-year-old homeless man faces numerous charges after Bangor Police say he used a hammer to destroy a granite pillar in front of a downtown business.

Police say they were called to a business on Main Street on Wednesday afternoon, where they found Matthew Bowden actively using a hammer to hit the pillar.

Officers say a large amount of granite had been removed, and granite from the door frame of the business had also been damaged.

Bowden was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail on several charges, including the following:

  • Criminal Mischief, Class D
  • Disorderly Conduct, Class E
  • Violation of Conditions of Release, Class E
