Man charged in shooting death during biker gang fight in Portland sentenced to five years

A Naples man was sentenced Thursday to 15 years behind bars with all but five suspended for the shooting death of a woman in Portland.

Aaron Karp pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of Susan McHugh, who was killed during a confrontation between biker gangs last July in the parking lot of a business on Forest Avenue.

Defense Attorney Verne Paradis says his client had a strong case for self-defense, but taking a plea agreement meant having a murder charge dropped.

Prosecutor Bud Ellis said the state was satisfied with the outcome of the trial.

Six other people involved in the case are being tried together.
