Officers say a 39-year-old suspect fleeing from Biddeford Police was hit by a truck while attempting to cross the Maine Turnpike Sunday night.

Maine State Police say the truck driver called in around 8:30 p.m. to say he’d hit a pedestrian running across the highway.

Police say they were able to narrow down the exact location where the man was hit to the Biddeford exit off the Turnpike and sent rescue crews to the area.

They say they identified the man as Jared Felling of Ellsworth, who they say was seriously injured, in the tall marshy area just before the exit.

Officers say Felling had a history of criminal activities, having recently been caught stealing from vehicles off the Biddeford exit.

They say, at the time he was hit, he was fleeing from police after an arrest warrant was issued for him Sunday when they say he removed his court-ordered ankle monitor earlier in the day.

Felling suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries when hit by the truck.

Troopers say they provided aid until Kennebunk Fire Rescue arrived, and took Felling to Maine Medical Center in Portland
