The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says a Windham man has turned himself in and confessed to the shooting of a domestic dog in North Yarmouth.
The agency said the shooting took place on Friday, at around 11 a.m., when three people were walking their dogs on a marked trail in the Knights Pond Preserve when one of their dogs was shot, around 20 feet ahead of them.
The Maine Warden Service offered a two-thousand-dollar reward for information leading to the shooter being arrested.
The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says 51-year-old Troy A. Hall of Windham went to the Windham Police Department and turned himself in. Game Wardens then met with Hall and he confessed to shooting the dog in North Yarmouth. The department says Game wardens had been following up on multiple leads provided by the public regarding this incident when Hall turned himself in.
Hall was charged by the Maine Warden Service with one count of shooting a domestic animal. Game Wardens say they’ll meet with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s office to determine if more charges are warranted.
Game Wardens were able to get statements from several eyewitnesses and collected evidence at the scene. The Warden Service also requested that members of the public, particularly those in the area of North Yarmouth, provide any surveillance camera footage if they had any, or call with any information regarding a middle-aged man leaving the area in a dark-colored, full-size pickup truck.
