Gorham – Shawn Moody, the well-known Gorham entrepreneur and former gubernatorial candidate, announced he is suspending his campaign for Governor of Maine before it officially began, citing ongoing health concerns.

During the final segment on WGAN’s Inside Maine on Saturday Moody shared with listeners that the decision comes after recent medical testing revealed elevated PSA levels, raising concerns of a possible prostate issue. “I am 0% concerned about my long-term health, zero. I really am,” Moody told listeners, emphasizing that the matter is being addressed early and expressing optimism about his prognosis. “Early detection is the key,” he said, encouraging other men to pursue regular medical check-ups.

Moody recounted the series of events leading up to the decision, noting that after planning his campaign launch and fundraising events, he chose to move up his mandatory FAA medical exam – a requirement for maintaining his pilot’s license – as a precaution before any formal campaign activity. The exam, however, uncovered elevated PSA results that prompted additional targeted testing and an MRI. By Thanksgiving, results were still inconclusive, leading to further tests which could culminate in a biopsy.

“I couldn’t, in good conscience, take money or have people put up signs knowing what I know, and you not knowing,” Moody said, addressing his supporters and emphasizing transparency. “You just can’t have a double standard… you have to be honest with people and that’s why I’m laying this bare right here to you folks.”

Moody reflected deeply on his experiences growing up in Gorham, his entrepreneurial beginnings, and his family’s support through past campaigns and personal challenges, including surviving multiple serious accidents. He credited his wife, Chrissy, with grounding and supporting their family, and thanked his children for standing by him.

Family, friends, and supporters have voiced understanding and support for his decision to prioritize health. Inside Maine producer Jeremy Mixer praised Moody’s honesty, stating, “You have a valid reason for suspending [the campaign]… you’re taking care of your health first, and that’s the most important thing.”

As he awaits further medical results, Moody will pause all active fundraising and signature collection but expressed his intent to stay civically engaged, including ongoing work with the Maine scholarship foundation. “This isn’t the end,” Moody assured listeners. “We’ve got to get a clean bill of health before committing to public service, but I’m hopeful and staying active.”

Moody’s announcement comes at a pivotal moment in Maine politics, with the gubernatorial race set to begin in earnest in the coming months. While his supporters may be disappointed, Moody’s message is clear: health and transparency come first.
