Classes are getting back to normal at the MSAD 75 district on Tuesday after all schools were closed Monday after a reported overnight threat of a bomb at four schools.
All schools were initially delayed two hours before a full closure was called to give law enforcement enough time to inspect all schools.
Topsham Police ultimately determined the threats were not credible and there was no ongoing danger to the public.
MSAD 75 serves Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham.
The district acknowledged that the full cancellation, which was called at 7:53 AM on Monday, was difficult for families and staff, but said the decision was driven by a commitment to safety.
MSAD 75 Superintendent Heidi O’Leary said moving forward, the district would continue to work hand-in-hand with local police and the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office to identify the origin of the threatening calls.
Meanwhile, several other school districts around Maine reported threats Monday.
WCSH reports Alfred Elementary School in RSU 57 was briefly cleared when a false swatting call was received after students had arrived.
Classes were dismissed at George Stevens Academy in Hancock County, where deputies determined a threatening call was consistent with a nationwide hoax involving computer-generated messages
And the Bangor Daily News reports that All Saints Catholic School in Bangor delayed its opening on Monday because of a bomb threat.
