The Maine Turnpike Authority is offering new E-ZPass windshield sticker tags featuring logos of sports teams.
The agency says the $20 passes featuring the Boston Red Sox, Portland Sea Dogs, and Portland Hearts of Pine are now available.
The MTA rolled out windshield stickers earlier this year as a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional hardcase transponders.
The newer technology eliminates the need for an internal battery, and require significantly less plastic than traditional transponders.
The MTA says a Maine Mariners tag will be available soon and that it plans to partner with professional teams across New England and college teams in Maine.
Proceeds from Portland Hearts of Pine sticker tags will benefit the Hearts of Pine Foundation, a nonprofit that uses soccer to build connections through after-school programs, local partnerships and investments.
“We are constantly looking for smart technology that can improve cost efficiency, reduce our environmental impact, and make travel easier. When we can pair those benefits with something creative and personal, it is a win for Maine drivers,” said Andre Briere, Executive Director, Maine Turnpike Authority.
The $20 cost for the new sports tags are more expensive than the $5 non branded sticker tags.
