New polling shows a drop in the approval rating of Maine Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins.
A Morning Consult survey released Thursday shows Collins’ net approval rating declined by 12 percentage points, which is more than any other senator the company polled.
Collins is now in negative territory, with a 51 percent disapproval rating, up from 44 percent in the prior quarter. Her approval in the Morning Consult poll is 42 percent, down from 47 percent at the end of last year.
Senator Collins recently broke ranks twice with President Trump and fellow Republicans over policy votes.
She joined Democrats in opposing a budget resolution that would likely require cuts in Medicare and Medicaid programs to extend President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cut. Days earlier, Collins voted against President Trump’s sweeping tariffs, citing Maine’s close relationship with Canada, and is a co-sponsor of a bill to give Congress more control over tariffs.
Collins confirmed her intention to run for a sixth term in the U.S. Senate in 2026 back in November.
Her approval may be underwater, but she’s faced long odds to win reelection in the past.
Collins was heavily outraised in her 2020 campaign by then-Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon and consistently trailed in the polls but still won reelection by a 51 to 42 percent margin.
