Investigators say a man who was killed after multiple crashes in Hancock County may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.

Maine State Police say 54-year-old Kevin Minnie of Ellsworth was speeding on Route 1 in Hancock around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday when he rear-ended a pickup truck, causing it roll over.

The driver of the pickup was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say Minnie continued driving before going in the opposite lane and striking a second vehicle in front of Tideway Market.

The driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Investigators say Minnie then got out of his vehicle and began hitting and jumping on vehicles that were stopped at the scene.

Minnie then ran towards the rear tire of a commercial dump truck that was approaching the area and was killed.

The crash remains under investigation.
