A standoff ended at a Portland condominium complex at 459 Allen Avenue which forced part of the street to close between Ray Street and Allen’s Corner. The drama unfolded when police attempted to serve court paperwork to a resident. According to Assistant Police Chief Robert Martin, a gunshot rang out as officers approached the unit, prompting immediate lockdown of the area and deployment of crisis negotiators.

Efforts to establish communication with the individual inside the condo proved unsuccessful. In an attempt to gain the resident’s attention, police utilized flash bangs and a specialized robot within the unit.

The exact nature of the court paperwork is unclear.

Around 3 p.m. Friday, police reported that the man had taken his own life and the road has since reopened.
