A Republican who was seeking his party’s nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Jared Golden has dropped out of the race.
According to WMTW, Second Congressional District candidate Rob Cross announced Monday that he is ending his bid to unseat Golden.
In a statement, Cross said, “I believe in doing what is best for the interest of our party and our shared conservative principles, and it is necessary to step aside at this time.”
The race still includes two state representatives, Austin Theriault and Mike Soboleski.
Second district voters will select a candidate at the polls in the June 11 primary election.
The winner will appear on the general election ballot in Nov. 2024.
