A second “superload” is scheduled to depart Jay for South Portland Wednesday night following a first load that completed the same trek Tuesday morning.
Maine State Police say the second load has a planned weekend stay in Oxford after the first one took an unforeseen multi day stop in Gray last weekend.
The second load will also travel overnight with a convoy of utility crews and police escorts, and make several stops before reaching South Portland next Tuesday.
The stops will include stayovers in Turner, Oxford, Gray and Buxton.
The owner of the former paper mill in Jay, JGT2 Redevelopment, is selling off massive equipment to another company, Packaging Corporation of America.
JGT2 Redevelopment is pursuing alternative site uses for the mill following the pause of a major data center project.
Packaging Corporation of America is purchasing 12 pieces of equipment from the former mill, including:
·3 heat recovery steam generators
·3 gas turbines
·3 gas turbine-driven electric generators
·Additional heavy mill machinery
The heavy duty hauls are being handled by Barnhart Crane & Rigging and are being delivered to Turner Island in South Portland, where they will be shipped to other parts of the country.
