Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders is holding a rally in Portland on Labor Day with Maine Democratic candidates Troy Jackson and Graham Platner.

Jackson is running for governor and Platner is running to unseat Republican Senator Susan Collins, both in next year’s election.

Platner has received national media attention since entering the race a week ago.

The rally will take place Monday evening at Merrill Auditorium as part of Senator Sanders’ ongoing “Fighting Oligarchy” campaign tour.

Sanders appeared in Chicago Sunday in an effort to boost progressive Democratic candidates in Illinois.

He started the tour in February with a series of appearances with Democratic U.S. representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York.

The two held events Omaha, Nebraska, Las Vegas, Denver with 34,000 in attendance and Los Angeles in front of 36,000 people.

The tour has featured speeches, musical performances, and efforts to promote policies such as universal healthcare and wealth taxation.

Jackson is a former president of the Maine Senate, who is one of several Democrats running to replace Governor Janet Mills, also a Democrat who is term limited.

Platner, until last week, was a little-known oyster farmer who did four infantry tours in the Marine Corps and the Army.

He received national media coverage, including from the New York Times, Politico and CNN, shortly after announcing his candidacy.

Platner and Jackson will appear with Sen. Sanders at Merrill Auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. on Labor Day, while doors will open at 3:30 p.m.
