Suspect in North Windham shooting found dead.

Investigators say that they have discovered the body of a suspect the was accused of the shooting death of a man in North Windham.

The Maine Department of Public Safety has identified 48-year-old James Ford of Windham as the suspect.

They said that the Windham Police Department responded to the intersection of Roosevelt Train and Landing Road just before 2 P.M. on Friday. Upon arrival to the scene, police found 33-year-old Erin Hayne who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene after witnesses attempted to save his life.

CBS 13 reports that witnesses said to investigators that they had seen a man in a sedan pull up next to the victim, who was on a motorcycle, and fired multiple shots at him. Investigators then say that a U-haul truck followed the vehicle and called 911.

Cumberland County Sheriff Deputies then located the vehicle behind a Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 302 in Raymond, but there was no one inside. After the canine search, they discovered the body of the suspect which was found with a single gunshot wound.

State troopers say that there is no known connection between Ford and Hayne.

The Maine State Police are still investigating the situation and are asking anyone who was on Route 302 at the time of the incident who may have video to call them.
